Why You Don’t Make More Money

  • Get serious about your career and your business. Is it a hobby? Are you a charity? Or is this a creative career?
  • Maybe fear keeps your fees too low. You are afraid to charge more for fear that all your current clients will leave. You think you’ll  have less volume. Good. You can’t make it on a small margin and large volume. You want less work at higher fees. Are you missing out on a lot of lucrative work because you are so busy with the lower paying giggs? Look at who makes what in your industry.
  • You are good enough! Many creative people undervalue themselves and their work. Maybe they think that it will lead to something bigger, and it can. But usually they are needlessly giving away their time and talent.
  • Sometimes NOT knowing what is fair leads to more money.
  • Maybe you hate discussing fees. You would prefer to take out the trash, clean the toilet, or dig a ditch? Do you have a problem asking for and accepting money – even when you know that the work is worthwhile?  A money story means you are always on the lookout for money making opportunities.
